A public event will be held by Swindon People’s Assembly on Thursday - featuring a range of speakers.

The meeting, at Gorsehill Community Centre from 7-9.30pm, will focus on the role of grassroots movements, direct action and protest.

Speakers will include author and activist Alan Gibbons, NHS campaigner Aneira Thomas who was the first baby born in the NHS, Daniel Jakopovich of the Stop The War Coalition and Anny Cullum from the community union

ACORN which has campaigned successfully in Bristol on housing issues.

Kate Linnegar, of the Swindon People’s Assembly, said: "Many people are happy to put their cross in a box on election day and leave the rest to the politicians. But for anyone who is interested in influencing our society beyond the ballot box, this is a great opportunity to hear how.”

More information about the event is available from the Swindon People's Assembly Facebook page.
