Youngsters and staff at Peatmoor Primary School are celebrating after being given an overall ‘Good’ rating in their recent Ofsted inspection - a huge turnaround since inspectors identified the school as ‘requiring improvement’ two years ago.
Inspectors, who visited the school on May 17 and 18, were struck by the “welcoming and happy” atmosphere of the school where the children were “polite, respectful and motivated to learn”.
Headteacher Mrs Eaton, who took over the headteacher's role in April 2015, said she was delighted that “Peatmoor has finally been recognised for the school it is.”
“We are delighted with the result which reflects the huge amount of work that everyone has put in". To get a good rating two years after the ‘requires improvement’ judgement is a real achievement.
Since Ofsted’s previous visit, Mrs Eaton explained that she had focused on continuing to strengthen the school and relationships between the pupils, teachers and parents. This was noticed by Ofsted who said that pupils “have extremely positive relationships with all the adults in the school.”
The leadership of the school was also praised, with Mrs Eaton’s “calm and unremitting determination” to drive up standards being singled out as a strength and the support she is shown by other leaders and governors.
The school also has a variety of extracurricular clubs, which have made pupils 'more enthusiastic about participating in team games'. Ofsted have said that the students have 'positive attitudes to learning' and 'learn a range of skills across different subjects'.
Another reason that Peatmoor gained a 'good' review is due to the safe environment that the pupils are in, as the staff are 'highly sensitive about the responsibility for pupils in their care'.
Peatmoor Primary is a mixed sex school with 200 children on role aged 4-11.
The school is part of Link Academies Collaborative Trust, an umbrella multi-academy trust of four primary school.
