A village cricket club near Swindon has been given a cash boost by leading local housebuilder Taylor Wimpey to help purchase coaching and training equipment.

The developer, which is currently building high-quality homes at West Point at Ridgeway Farm in Swindon, has provided a financial donation to Purton Cricket Club in nearby Purton, which will be used to purchase equipment to support the team’s coaches.

Mat Bull, Chairman of the cricket club, says: “We’re thrilled Taylor Wimpey has agreed to sponsor us this year and help fund our coaching equipment. Everyone is really pleased to have the Taylor Wimpey name on our team kit.

“Over the last two years both the junior and senior teams have grown in numbers, so the funds will also help towards the day-to-day running of the club.

“With the official season now at an end, the committee and grounds team are working hard before we begin training again. The Cricket Academy for juniors takes place in February and includes some high intensity training, while the senior members all start to train indoors for our friendly games in April.”

The club will be celebrating its 200-year anniversary in 2020 and it is currently fundraising in order to build a new pavilion which will mark the occasion.

Mat adds: “The new pavilion will be dedicated to Ainslie Duffell who was the wife of a member of our committee and who sadly passed away last year. We’ve already started our fundraising efforts this year, with Phil and has son Alex raising money by cycling a huge distance of 370 miles in just four days.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to Taylor Wimpey on behalf of the club. The donation is such a significant amount and will really help us to achieve our goals.

“Cricket is such a key community sport, and we have such a welcoming and friendly atmosphere at Purton Cricket Club that members are now joining from the surrounding area including north Swindon and local villages.”

There’s a stunning selection of two, three and four-bedroom homes currently available to reserve at West Point at Ridgeway Farm, priced from £210,000.

The Sales and Information Centre is located at Ridgeway Farm, Common Platt, Purton, Swindon, SN5 4JX, and open daily from 11am to 5.30pm (Mondays from 1pm to 5.30pm). The Sales Executive can also be contacted on 01793 689066.
