Royal Wootton Bassett's popular orchestra is taking to the saddle for its summer concert, which falls on US Independence Day.

"It just had to be a US themed concert," explained musical director Alan MacRae. "We've put together a really exciting programme with something for everyone."

There'll be a wide selection of American patriotic favourites including the Stars and Stripes Forever and the Liberty Bell March (better known in the UK as the Monty Python theme tune), classics from the musicals including West Side Story and Oklahoma, familiar blues numbers including Summertime and Rhapsody in Blue, and some lively wild west numbers, including Hoe Down and Big Country.

it's not too late for an update, just to say that we weren't referring to "written notes". We mean that the orchestra selects a popular programme of music and that Alan makes comments during the performance itself. Don't worry if it can't be changed.

In between the music, the programme is peppered with Alan Macrae's comments, informative insights and trademark bad jokes which always adds to a very happy and relaxed occasion, where all the family will feel at home.

Younger members of the audience often make their way to the front for a better view, or to take a closer look at the instruments. The players are happy to talk to them during the interval.

Whether you're a seasoned concert goer, or a first timer, saddle up, and join RWB on the trail!
