Major signing for Wildcats

The Bespoke Guardians Swindon Wildcats have announced that experienced British Forward Russ Cowley has signed for the remainder of the 22/23 NIHL season.

Russ's career has seen him play for the Cardiff Devils, Basingstoke Bison, MK Lightning, and most notably the Coventry Blaze, where he spent most of his career.

This won’t be the first time Russ has set foot on the ice in Swindon, having spent time with the Chill, Swindon Phoenix and Swindon Lynx around the turn of the millennium.

Recently he’s been the captain of the Bison and the Lightning at the second-tier level and will come into the Wildcats team for this weekend’s games with the Bison and Bees.

Head Coach Aaron Nell was delighted to have secured a signature of one of the premier British forwards in the National League.

He said: "Russ will be a big part of our forward line and we’re all excited to see him back in Swindon. He’s got a very close relationship with Lee Richardson, and I know how excited they both are to be back on a team together.

"He’s got experience at very high level and was still producing over a point per game in the National League last year. We’re excited to get working with Russ and I know the fans will be looking forward to seeing him on the ice this weekend."

Organisations interested in sponsorship of Russ are invited to email for more information.
