Basset Down Complex on the outskirts of Swindon has unveiled a brand-new family-friendly disc golf facility.

The venue team say the sport adds to Basset Down’s growing reputation as one of Wiltshire’s hidden gems — the perfect spot for a fun, affordable and active day out.

Set within acres of scenic countryside but just minutes from Junction 16 of the M4, Basset Down already offers a full range of activities for the public including footgolf, Toptracer driving range, Padel courts and a stylish restaurant and bar.

The introduction of disc golf adds even more variety for families, friends, and groups looking for something new to enjoy together outdoors.

“Disc golf is a fantastic addition to what we offer here,” said Juliette Nutland, Owner at Basset Down Complex.

“It’s active, inclusive, easy to learn and perfect for making the most of the outdoors — whether you’re with young children, teens, or adults.

"And being able to follow your game with a great meal or drink on the terrace makes it a brilliant full day out.”

Like traditional golf or footgolf, the aim is to complete each hole in as few shots - or throws - as possible.

Instead of balls and clubs, players throw discs towards raised metal baskets. It’s fast-growing across the UK and perfect for beginners and seasoned players alike.

Basset Down’s new disc golf offering includes two custom-designed courses built on the existing footgolf layout so the two sports can be played simultaneously.

Discs will be available to hire on-site, and players will receive a scorecard or can use an app called ‘UDISC’ for digital scoring and maps. You can also bring your own discs for free.

After a round, players are welcome to relax and refuel in the on-site restaurant and bar, which features a large balcony with stunning views over the parkland, as well as a spacious outdoor patio area.

The restaurant serves a seasonal menu made with locally-sourced ingredients, along with a dedicated children’s menu, cakes, Rays Ice Cream and snacks.

To make a full day of it, guests can also enjoy other activities at Basset Down, including footgolf, driving range, Padel or golf.

People can either turn up on the day for a game, or alternatively book online at www.basset-down.com or call to reserve a time slot on 01793 812336.
