Glitz and glamour of Ladies Day returns to Newbury Racecourse

Racegoers will be arriving in all their finery on Saturday, 20 May in West Berkshire for the Al Shaqab Lockinge with Ladies Day race meetng.

The two-day meetng will kick off a summer of racing at Newbury Racecourse.

The Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes, the Group 1 highlight of the summer flat season at Newbury, is billed as a fantastic day’s racing. 

Won last year by the superstar Baaeed, Saturday’s £350,000 showpiece looks set to be an exciting renewal. The first older horse Group 1 over the straight mile is the feature race of Newbury’s flat calendar. Richard Hannon Snr won the race three times in 1993, 2010 and 2011, and his son Richard Hannon Jr has two entered in this year’s race in a bid to match his father’s record, having won the race in 2014 and 2015. 

With legendary jockey Frankie Dettori set to retire at the end of the season, he rides on Saturday to attempt a sixth victory in the Lockinge.

With high class action on the track, off the racetrack Ladies Day returns with racegoers in with a chance to win an array of prizes. On-the-spot prizes will be awarded throughout the day by the roaming racecourse style team with prizes on offer including race day tickets, Sequoia hair and beauty vouchers including massages and spray tans, shopping goodie bags from Parkway Shopping and many more.

In addition, Sequoia hair and beauty will be offering a range of free treatments at their onsite marquee. The ever-important Ladies Day photograph can be taken in front of the Parkway Shopping flower wall to be in with a chance of winning £500 worth of shopping vouchers.

Those who purchase advance tickets can book on to complimentary behind the scenes tours of the racecourse. Course expert and former jockey David Crosse will be on hand to provide insight and behind the scenes access at Newbury Racecourse including into the parade ring and winners’ enclosure. Retired racehorse Ouzbeck will also be on site to meet everyone on arrival.

Racegoers can dance the night away courtesy of an Ibiza-themed after party featuring Lovely Laura and DJ Ben SanCago who will close off the weekend in style. The husband and wife duo will lead the party with their one-of-a-kind saxophone and DJ combination. 

The duo have become renowned worldwide for their house music and live saxophone shows, playing venues and festivals including Tomorrowland, Cafe´ Mambo, Ministry of Sound, Ibiza Rocks, Creamfields & Pacha. The after party will start at 5:30pm once racing has finished.

For those aged 18-26, British Champions Series have launched Club 26, offering £10 tickets to the finest 26 flat fixtures, including the Al Shaqab Lockinge.
