SEAT has just sold its millionth car in the UK, not bad for a company which sold its first car here back in 1985.

Sales have passed 50,000 this year. They have a range of petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid and fully electric powertrains, and six models to choose from, so UK customers can easily find a SEAT to suit their needs.

Top of my list is the Arona SUV, both refined and smooth plus equally as good as anything in the competition.

The 2021 facelift model has tremendous style, great quality inside and out and excellent economy. As a small SUV it can not be bettered as a family vehicle.

It first went on sale four years ago, with prices starting around £20,000 and going up to £26,500.

The power comes from a 1.0 TSI petrol engine in either 94bhp or 108bhp with a 1.5 TSI petrol unit producing 148bhp. The lower-powered 1.0 TSI version has a five-speed manual gearbox as standard, while the 108bhp variant can be had with a six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG twin-clutch gearbox.

The 1.5 TSI is only available with the seven-speed DSG transmission. All cars are front-wheel drive and sadly there is no 4x4 model.

The Arona offers a range of six trims - the SE, SE Technology, FR, FR Sport, Xcellence and the top of the range the Xcellence Lux.

The kit includes roof rails, LED daytime running lights, cruise control, air con, Bluetooth and alloy wheels included even on the entry-level SE model.

The SE Tech has rear parking sensors and the Connectivity Pack that adds sat-nav and wireless phone charging as well.

The Xcellence Lux model includes wireless phone charging, adaptive cruise control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, smartphone connectivity and automatic self-parking.

For safety there is autonomous emergency braking, blindspot monitoring, multi collision braking and hill hold control.

And there are 68 different colour combinations to choose from!
