A report by Swindon Supermarine correspondent Aleck Everard

Swindon Supermarine ended their 30th anniversary season in style with a fabulous 5-3 victory over play off qualifiers Chesham United at the Webbswood Stadium.

Needing a mathematical miracle to make the play offs themselves the Blue Army started strongly, with a fine pass finding its way through to Henry Spalding who rounded stand-in keeper Lewis Rolfe to net after 15 minutes.
Within seconds Marine had a penalty after Zack Kotwica was clobbered in the box by a late tackle. Harry Williams stepped up to make it two and seconds later he was so close to making it three, just heading over from a corner.

Then out of the blue a Chesham breakaway saw Shaq Hippolyte-Patrick put away a neat finish past Charlie Searle for 2-1. Marine were soon back in control just ahead of the break when Jamie Edge nodded home a Spalding in-swinging corner.

Within minutes of the second half the points looked secure as Williams earned his brace when Spalding’s cross was headed back into the mixer by Duffus, and the league top scorer was quickest to react. 4-1 to Marine but the Generals never gave up.

Sub Jordan Edwards grabbed one back with 15 minutes left before a terrific solo run and finish by Omar Rowe made it jittery for the hosts.

Their fears were allayed when Williams was too hot to handle, and was hauled down in the box for a second spot kick. Williams converted it himself with five mins left to seal his hat-trick – 34 league goals for the season. He finishes League top scorer along with Moses Emmanuel of Hayes and Yeading. 5-3 Swindon Supermarine.

A terrific win to end what has been a terrific season for Marine. The best tribute to the anniversary was the highest ever finish to a league season for the club in sixth place. Credit goes to everyone especially manager Lee Spalding, assistant Charlie Griffin and the backroom boys. Well done all!

Match Rating – 6 out of 5!

Player of the match (and season!) – Harry Williams
