Swindon Croquet Club's High Handicap Golf Croquet team recorded its first victory of the season with a hard-fought victory playing away against Broadwas Croquet Club.
The Swindon Croquet Club says it was warmly welcomed by the home team - Broadwas Croquet Club - whose lawns were described as' sloping slightly but kept well-mown and green.'
Both sides got off to a good start, winning one game each before SCC won five out of the next six games to secure a commanding lead.
The Broadwas team were said to have staged a strong fight back, but were unable to catch SCC who held their nerve to run out winners by 11-9.
Captain Tony Tomlin said: “It's was a good win with all the team contributing to the victory. We all thoroughly enjoyed the day and thanked Broadwas for their hospitality."
The SCC also held a Progressive Doubles Tournament event. Organiser Tony Tomlin played this year’s tournament to a slightly different formation from usual, and with 13 entries there was good competition.
The club said everyone enjoyed a competitive day of croquet doubles and, when the individual scores had been tallied, the overall winner was SCC's Simon Cooper-Tydeman.
