Swindon Croquet Club members turned out in force this week to celebrate the soon-approaching start of their upcoming new season at the Southbrook Inn.
The event was organised by the club's Social Secretary Sharon Smith.
The evening was said to be quite the family affair with Sharon’s husband Clive taking on the role of quizmaster and skittles referee, and two of their grandsons, Sam and Jack, helping out by replacing the skittles and returning the balls.
Colin Brain won a fiercely contested game of ‘Killer’ skittles to conclude the evening of competitive fun.
The Grand Reopening of the club’s lawns will take place on Saturday 1 April. The Swindon Croquet Club members say they will be keen to start competing again, both socially and competitively.
‘Bring a friend day’ will take place on Sunday 2 April - where members will introduce their friends to croquet.
A spokesperson from the club said: "Anyone is welcome to come along on this day and give the sport a try - we members are very friendly and are always enthusiastic with regard to explaining the game and demonstrating how to use the mallet. All equipment is provided, tuition is free and refreshments will be served!"
For those interested in attending, more information can be found on the club's website at swindoncroquetclub.org.uk or individuals can just turn up on 2 April from 1pm.
The club is located on Moredon Sports Complex (opposite Manor Garden Centre) with free parking available.
