Swindon Croquet Club were victorious against the Camerton and Peasedown Croquet Club over the weekend at their away match in Bath.
Swindon Croquet Club’s golf croquet team travelled to the far side of Bath over the weekend (Saturday 30 July), to compete against Camerton and Peasedown Croquet Club.
The team said they had the pleasure of playing this away match on four immaculately maintained, well watered lawns.
The Swindon team got off to a flying start, winning three of the four opening games, and they continued to dominate the day’s play, romping to an impressive 13.5/6.5 victory.
Husband and wife Beverly and Martin Briggs remained unbeaten throughout - winning their first game as a doubles pairing - followed by convincing wins in their singles games.
Beverly was full of praise for team mate Steve Hares who she said played superbly when they were paired together in her second doubles game.
Captain Clive Smith was also said to have been in excellent form, recording three wins, then narrowly losing out on a fiercely contested, ‘golden hoop’ decider in his last game.
Clive said: "Playing croquet in such a picturesque setting on superb lawns was a pleasure. We were made very welcome and thanked our opposition for their hospitality.
"It was an impressive performance with every team member contributing to our handsome victory."
Those who would like to try the sport can attend free taster sessions (with friendly tuition and equipment provided) at SCC’s Moredon lawns.
