Swindon Croquet Club played the second match of the new season away, against Cheltenham Croquet Club.

Cheltenham fielded a strong side during this match and were said to have romped into an early lead, with their home advantage on their greens perhaps proving to be of benefit.

After adjusting to the speed of the lawns, the Swindon team worked to stage a strong comeback in the afternoon, but as there was too much to claw back, the team fell short, suffering defeat overall.

Captain Clive Smith said: ‘It was a most enjoyable day’s play against strong but friendly opposition. They made us feel very welcome, serving us with delicious homemade cake, tea and coffee.

"We look forward to welcoming them to our Club in due course."

The club is based at Moredon Sports Complex (opposite Manor Garden Centre).
