Swindon Sports Forum in conjunction with Swindon Borough Council and WASP (Wiltshire and Swindon Sport) had plans to conduct a Senior Games for Care Homes in Swindon during this autumn. However the current situation wouldn’t allow this. But…

Instead Swindon Sports Forum have organised the first ever VIRTUAL Senior Games.

The forum has invited six Swindon care homes to take part.

The Care Homes competing are:

- Prince Rupert Court in Freshbrook,

- Hurst House in Pinetree Rise,

- Kings Court off Kings Hill,

- Lansdown Hill in Wroughton,

- Park View in Blunsdon and

- Ridgeway Rise in St Andrew’s Ridge

The event will be run over four days from Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 October.

Ian Jankinson of Swindon Sports Forum said: "This is a fun event in which any resident can participate, but there are medals and a trophy for the best performances. Each care home will record the 6 best performances during four events. These are Javelin (using a foam javelin!) – Putting Tin Can Alley - and Target Mat. These best attempts will be judged by our Sports Forum Coordinator Chris Baker."

Each Care Home will receive their activity pack over the next few days with all the equipment they need to perform each activity. They will record everyone’s attempt at each game and hopefully we will see those posted on the Swindon Sports Forum Facebook page during the competition.

Justin Tomlinson has agreed to produce a video message for the launch and Professor Dawn Skelton, Professor of Ageing and Health, School of Health and Life Sciences, Institute for Applied Health Research, Centre for Living, Glasgow Caledonian University who was one of the founders of the original Games in Glasgow will also address the competitors.

ian added: "So despite the Lockdown we can inject a little bit of fun into the Care Home environment."
