It was a day of celebration at Swindon St George last weekend as the club recognised the hard work and dedication shown by its Junior section’s coaching staff and players alike during 2024 with a fun day.
The Dragons run regular training and coaching sessions at its Swindon Rugby Union Club base, along with matches involving other clubs in the area and provided an end of season funday for the around seventy or so youngsters, aged from just five up to 15, who enjoy getting to grips with what is a relatively new sport to most of them.
The boys and girls, along with parents and wider family members, were rewarded with a number of attractions, including a bouncy castle, an assault course, a barbeque and axe-throwing.
A popular highlight was provided by club sponsors Powerwash Contractors, who set up a shooting gallery, with one of the company’s super powerful water jet guns used as ammunition!
The main focus of the day, however, was the annual awards ceremony, with recipients from every age group presented with medals and certificates.
St George chairman Warren Huggins said. "I’d like to think that everyone present had a brilliant time, which they all thoroughly deserved.
"The future of Rugby League looks pretty safe in Swindon with a clear pathway to our open age side, as evidenced by the rise of Tyler Lehman through all the junior age groups, making his debut in our first thirteen this season.’
