Swindon Town has announced that it is changing its name from STFC (Swindon Town Football Club) to Swindon Town Football United (STFU)

The planned changes were announced at a meeting of the Supporters Trust Forum last night with owner Clem Morfuni saying he's following the example of League One club Wigan Athletic FC (WAFC) who recently changed their name to Wigan Town Football (WTF).

Mr Morfuni said: "We thought that STFC as an initialisation was too impersonal and what we've always thought is that it doesn't really describe the 'togetherness' of the club so we believe 'United' suits it better so we're telling the fans STFU.

"At the moment we're 15th in League Two and we should really be doing a lot better so hopefully this change will give us the lift we need to get a bit higher before the end of the season.

"STFU, which comes into affect from today 1 April, is definitely the messaging we want to get out to all of our fans. So we're now shouting STFU out to all the world at the top of our voices."

In other news Eighties pop star Terence Trent D'arby, who changed his name to Sandanda Maitreya two decades ago, has already voiced his support for the club by telling reporters 'STFU' at a press conference.

He said: "Just because it's the first day of April doesn't mean I'm a fool. The only thing I'm going to say to you all is STFU."
