Swindon Croquet Club’s Golf Croquet Handicap Team showed good form in sweltering conditions at home venue Moredon Sports Hub against Moreton-in-Marsh.
The first three rounds of games were closely contested and the match was finely balanced at the lunch break with the scores tied.
During the afternoon session the Swindon team demonstrated some fine hoop running, accurate clearances and impressive tactical awareness to pull ahead and clinch victory by 11-9.
Swindon’s Man of the Match was Martin Briggs, who won all four of his games, with Steve Hares also clinching three vital wins.
Captain Clive Smith said: "It was a super day of croquet despite the extreme heat. The match was played throughout in a competitive but very friendly manner and we look forward to competing against the Moreton-in-Marsh team on their lawns.
"Well played Swindon!"
