The Swindon Croquet Club fell victim to the strength of the Bath Croquet Club and suffered a loss in the first league match of the season.
For their first league match of the season, the reigning league champions were up against a strong Bath team and struggled to adjust to the lightning-fast lawns.
Following the three morning rounds of doubles and singles games, Bath romped into a 7.5/4.5 lead. For Swindon, only Martin Briggs remained unbeaten, winning both his singles games and combining with Dave Booth to win both his doubles games.
Captain Colin Bailey found himself unlucky, losing both a singles game and a doubles game on the deciding ‘golden’ hoop.
The Bath team stormed through the two afternoon rounds to clinch overall victory by 13.5/6.5.
Captain Colin Bailey said: "Although we are disappointed with the match score, we were warmly welcomed by the Bath team and enjoyed a great day of croquet."
