Swindon Croquet Club played their first match of the season in the South West Federation handicap league (northern section) against Nailsea last Friday.
Nailsea fielded a team with several low handicap players but the Swindon team responded well and held a 7- 4 lead at the lunch break.
Nailsea were said to have fought back strongly in the afternoon, during which there were several closely contested matches. The final result was a 10 - 10 draw with both sides securing one point.
Swindon’s Captain Colin Bailey said: "Everyone played exceptionally well against a strong Nailsea team with our most successful players in the singles being Dave Booth, Steven Hares and Terry Clements, with three wins, two wins, and two wins respectively."
Swindon’s next league match is away to Cheltenham on Monday 15 May.
