Swindon St George will play a big match this Saturday against Cardiff, and the team share news of an international selection in the club.
Words by Barrie Matthews.
Hot on the heels of preparations for this weekend’s clash with the high-flying Blue Dragons, comes the news that St George’s popular coach Rod Evans has received a call up to join the Wales squad for the World Cup RL Masters Festival, to be played in York during November.
The Welsh side face the likes of Australia, Canada, England, France and Ireland in what is designed to be a celebration of the sport’s biggest ever World Cup to be staged in England this year, across three fronts – men’s, women’s and wheelchairs.
Evans says he is excited to be chosen.
He added: "It’s a real honour to be picked for my country and I am now very much looking forward to donning the red of Wales in action."
Before that, however, he faces several of his new teammates when Cardiff Blue Dragons come to call.
With the men’s, women’s and wheelchairs’ seasons having now drawn to a close, this will potentially be the last chance to see Rugby League live in Swindon this year.
Members of the public are welcome to come and enjoy what is expected to be a fast, furious and fun format of RL at NALGO Sports Ground, Cricklade Road, SN2 7AP, this Saturday at 2.30pm.
