Swindon’s croquet team are celebrating first place at the Annual Spring Short Croquet team championship.
Each year, there is a Spring Short Croquet tournament at Nailsea which, this year, is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
Having previously won successive promotions to Division 1, Swindon tied for first place but lost the penalty shoot-out in 2024.
A spokesperson said: “This year we went one better having finished with a three-way tie with two Nailsea teams on 9 wins each. In the shoot-out Swindon scored two hits on the peg in the first two of four rounds after which there were no further hits from the three teams, so it was very satisfactory to prevail after last year's near miss!
“The successful team was Andy Smith, Tony Mayer, Mike Graham and Alan Braunton - well done! Hopefully, this will encourage more members to try their hand at short croquet.”
Swindon Croquet Club will be holding an open day which will take place at Moredon Sporting Hub on Sunday 4 May, from 10.30am until 3.30pm. The event is open to all ages and abilities, with all equipment provided.
