Back-to-back wins for Swindon Wildcats after two games this weekend

A Swindon Wildcats match report from Jack McCarthy.

This weekend (1 & 2 October), saw a perfect four-pointer for your Swindon Wildcats as they secured back-to-back wins over the Raiders IHC.

On Saturday night the Wildcats beat the Raiders 4-1 in front of a packed-out crowd at the Link Centre. They then battled hard to get a 3-2 win in Romford on Sunday night.

New signing Russell Cowley made an immediate impact scoring two big goals this weekend. Renny Marr also had a quality weekend between the pipes to stop the big Raiders forwards.

Wildcats VS Raiders Saturday night match report:

After a very back and forth start to the period it was the Raiders who got the first goal with Tommy Huggett first timing the puck past Marr.

The Raiders then get a penalty shot through Harry Gulliver however Marr makes a big save to keep it to one.

End of the first period Wildcats 0-1 Raiders

The Wildcats got their first of the game during minute 28 with Malasinski forcing the puck through Ethan James.

With the Wildcats applying a lot of pressure, Aaron Nell drove the puck towards the net and Cowley was there to poke it into the net.

The Wildcats then got a powerplay opportunity and Balint Pakozdi took full advantage of this as he flicked the puck into the corner past James.

End of the second period Wildcats 3-1 Raiders

The Wildcats came out very strong in the third and got their fourth through Reed Sayers as he drove towards the net and first timed the puck past James.

The Wildcats then got themselves into penalty trouble however they defended very well killing off the powerplays and securing the win.

Wildcats VS Raiders Sunday night match report:

The first period started off very scrappy with both teams receiving penalties. But it would be the Wildcats who got the first goal with Cowley flicking the puck through the crowd of bodies into the top corner.

End of the first period Wildcats 1-1 Raiders

The second period was a very tight period with both teams defending very well stopping the attackers from getting any big chances.

However, the Raiders equalized on the powerplay as Brandon Ayliffe rifled the puck past Marr.

End of the second period Wildcats 1-1 Raiders

The Raiders found themselves on a 2-on-1 breakaway with their new import Gomercic flicking the puck through Marr’s legs.

With the Wildcats piling on the pressure, they got the equalizer with Pakozdi throwing the puck towards the net and finding its way past James.

The Wildcats got a powerplay opportunity with 4 minutes to go and found the winning goal with Malasinski latching onto a rebound and forcing the puck in.

A fantastic turnaround weekend for the Wildcats to get the four points. Your Bespoke Guardian Swindon Wildcats are back next Saturday against the Peterborough Phantoms.
