Swindon St George Rugby League Club are set to fly thanks to a new minibus.
The Swindon rugby league club now have their own minibus thanks to generous sponsorship and a good deal of fund-raising efforts.
A launch event and naming ceremony took place on Saturday at Greenbridge Road.
This resulted in the vehicle being dubbed ‘Rodney’ in honour of club secretary Rod Evans who, alongside the sterling work he regularly performs for the Dragons, played a major part in ensuring the necessary finances were in place through generous personal loans and donations.
Committee member Sven Grove should also be commended, along with others, for his hard graft in making sure the purchase, along with all the necessary admin, was able to go ahead.
Chairman Warren Huggins is delighted with the move, said: “This is a big step forward for us, and another building block in the development of our club.
“The vehicle will now be available for use by all of St George’s sections, including men’s open age, juniors and masters, along with our wheelchair RL side.
“Thanks must given to all our sponsors who have helped the club to grow. Our main club backer of course, Powerwash Contractors, along with, amongst others, Wiltshire Windows, Allin1 Sports and our wonderful food suppliers at the Queens Tap.”
