A vital sporting hub in Swindon has been selected as a national finalist in the Travis Perkins Managed Services ‘Better Together’ Awards.
Moredon Sporting Hub is one of four projects in the UK to be shortlisted for the Community Award. Operated by Central Swindon North Parish Council in partnership with Swindon Borough Council, the hub is a cornerstone for local health, offering facilities for cycling, football, cricket, and softball.
The hub’s 1.2km closed-road cycling track has become a lifeline for adults with disabilities and long-term health conditions through its ‘Limitless Cycling’ sessions. These sessions, which regularly host between 30 and 60 users and their carers, provide a safe, traffic-free environment for physical activity.
Nominated for its impact on resident health and inclusivity, this category celebrates exceptional community initiatives that demonstrate an outstanding contribution to community engagement and resident participation.
Jason Smith, Account Manager for Travis Perkins Managed Services, said: “The facilities at Moredon Sporting Hub offer disabled users a great way to stay active and practice cycling. These shelters will enhance the experience for their carers and will give them year-long access. This project truly embodies the spirit of being ‘Better Together’.”
The winners will be announced at a prestigious ceremony at the world-famous Silverstone Circuit on 5 March. If successful, Swindon Borough Council will receive a £5,000 grant from the Travis Perkins Legacy Fund to help the hub expand its capacity and reach more families and individuals in need.
The ‘Better Together’ Community Award is sponsored by WonderGrip, a fully integrated global glove manufacturer focused on innovation and uniqueness.
