Swindon’s own wheelchair rugby team, The Dragons, are about to embark on their first full season of league action later this year.

Wheels RL Head and Coach Tony Ellis announced that the club has reached an agreement to enter the super competitive WRL Wheelchair Invitation League. The team will be entertaining sides such as Cardiff Blue Dragons, North Wales Crusaders and Torfaen Tigers at their New College venue.

He said: “A full fixture list will be released shortly, but for now the hard work escalates as we pump up preparations, particularly in recruitment of players, helpers and sponsors.

“This unique discipline of Rugby League is totally inclusive. It is open to men and women, boys and girls of all ages, experience and abilities, whether they are actual wheelchair users or not.

“The rules of WCRL closely match those of the running game and a proper rugby ball is used with no forward passes allowed.”

Further details will be revealed soon, but anybody interested in getting involved in this exciting sport are welcome to contact the club at [email protected]
