Swindon has a new buzz in its sports scene with the launch of Pickleball, a fast-growing sport blending elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis.

The Swindon Pickleball Club offers more than just a chance to learn a new sport. It provides social, physical, and mental health benefits, making it a great option for people of all ages and fitness levels.

The club’s welcoming atmosphere ensures that newcomers are greeted with warmth, given an induction by a coach or club ambassador, and encouraged to jump right into games alongside experienced members.

Bryan Saunders brought Pickleball to Swindon in May 2023, after years of competitive play in the U.S.

Bryan's passion for Pickleball was sparked during a trip to Florida in 2017. Each return trip deepened his love for the sport, eventually leading him to join the prestigious Naples Pickleball Centre, known for its 64 courts and vibrant community. Over time, Bryan's talent on the court blossomed, resulting in his remarkable achievement of winning gold medals at both the US Open and the English Open in 2023 and 2024.

Driven by the desire to share his enthusiasm and experience, Bryan launched the Swindon Pickleball Club, putting out the call on social media and through local networks. His vision was to create a space where anyone in Swindon could discover the joys of Pickleball. In a show of overwhelming community support, the club was welcomed with open arms.

To make Pickleball accessible to all, Bryan arranged free taster sessions, inviting Swindon locals to try their hand at the sport. The response was electric. Within weeks, Swindon Pickleball Club had established a core group of players, eager to take to the court regularly. Thanks to partnerships with local sports venues, the club now hosts sessions four times a week, providing ample opportunity for everyone to get involved.

As of today, just sixteen months after its inception, Swindon Pickleball Club has grown to include over 150 players. The club continues to expand, attracting new players every week and creating a strong sense of community among its members.

Brian said: “We’re proud of the community that’s growing around Pickleball. It’s a sport that brings people together, keeps you active, and makes it easy to form new friendships on and off the court.

"This is just the beginning for Swindon Pickleball Club, and we’re excited to see where the future takes us.”
