The Swindon & District Branch of Parkinson’s UK have been invited by the Swindon Hindu Temple Cultural Centre to make a presentation on Saturday 8 April about Parkinson’s at their Temple Festival as part of the 2017 Parkinson’s Awareness Week.

Mr Pradeep Bhardwaj, Chairman of the Cultural Centre, says it will be an opportunity for the community to learn more about Parkinson’s, giving local people the chance to meet people affected by the condition. The presentation will be given by Dave Logan, Chair of the Parkinson’s UK Swindon & District Branch, at 6.15pm.

This year’s Parkinson’s Awareness Week, which runs from 10-16 April aims to highlight the urgent need for better treatments for the 127,000 people affected by Parkinson’s across the UK, and to ask the public to support Parkinson’s research.

Parkinson’s is a complex neurological condition, with varying symptoms which get worse over time. For some people, having Parkinson’s can be a frustrating and isolating experience, and this can be compounded by treatment options that only mask the symptoms of the condition.

Parkinson’s UK brings together people with Parkinson’s, their carers and families through a network of local groups.

Dave Logan, Chair of the Parkinson’s UK Swindon & District Branch, said: “Current drugs do not slow down, stop or reverse the condition and people with Parkinson’s urgently need a breakthrough.

“The event is a great opportunity to learn a little more about the condition, show your support and find out how Parkinson’s UK can help.”
