A Swindon man has been sentenced to six years and eight months imprisonment after assaulting a woman in Eldene.

Ricky Wilding, 22, of Leighton Avenue, Park South, pleaded guilty to GBH and was sentenced at Swindon Crown Court yesterday.

On February 12 this year, Wilding was involved in an argument with a woman who he had previously been in a relationship with.

During the argument, Wilding soon turned violent and grabbed the woman by the throat, threw her onto a sofa and spat in her face, before kicking her in the thigh.

Det Con Matt Lewis, of the Public Protection Department, said: “Wilding is a manipulative and dangerous individual and I am pleased that the court has quite rightly identified him as a danger to women. The sentence he has been given reflects the danger he poses.

“Domestic abuse of any nature is completely unacceptable and we will do all that we can to ensure offenders are put before the courts.

“It takes a brave individual to speak out about domestic abuse and I thank the women in this case for standing up to Wilding so that justice could be served.”
