The staff and pupils of Rodbourne Cheney Primary School were excited to welcome visitors to their school last week, as former S Club 8 member Aaron Renfree and pen-pals from Germany visited the school.
Aaron, former S Club 8 member and assistant choreographer on the X Factor Live Tours (2009/2010) spent time working with Rodbourne Cheney's Elite Dance team who recently got through to the national school dance championships to be held in Birmingham on 11 July.
Aaron starred in Flashdance, The Musical which ran for a year in 2009 and also appeared in the West End production of We Will Rock You: The Musical and was visiting the school to help launch the MF Dance street and break dancing classes hosted for the children during lunctimes.
Aaron shared his dance experiences over the years and showed how learning can be achieved through movement, which is both fun and enjoyable. The children also discovered how they can tell stories and emotion through dance, music and imagination.
On Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 April, Rodbourne Cheney welcomed 10 Year 7 pupils visiting from Berlin, Germany.
Over the years, the school's Year 6 children have established pen-pal relationships, which begin by writing letters to individual pupils. They have then had the opportunity to visit their pen-pals in Berlin. However, this year Rodbourne Cheney are pleased to be able to host pen-pals, here in Swindon.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the children came together to meet face to face in person for the first time. They spent time on the school field playing traditional British games, enjoyed a traditional cream tea at break-time and participated in lessons in the afternoon. On Saturday, the visitors spent the day with some of the school's children's families, and thoroughly enjoyed their time in Swindon.
