Due to an electric fire at their premises in Cheney Manor on 4 January, Swindon Scrapstore has relocated to new premises in West Swindon at Bay 5, Westmead Drive, (Office Clearance Wholesale) Swindon, Wiltshire SN5 7YT, near Unipart and the Lighting Bug Shop.

The amount of floor space available to Scrapstore has increased by about twenty times and they are now able to expand the variety of materials available to members and visitors. The community re-paint scheme has increased in terms of the quantity and variety of paint on offer. The arts and craft shop has also increased in size offering a larger selection of paints, glues and crafty bits.

Scrapstore hopes to set up new projects including a café which will provide hot food for staff, volunteers, visitors and other businesses in the local community, a construction reclamation project which will enable them to collect businesses' redundant construction materials such as sand, gravel, bricks, cement and much more. They will also be able to offer in-house arts & crafts workshops in their new premises.

They are beginning to set up a used office furniture area within the Scrapstore where local schools, community groups and local people can come for all their office furniture. All the Scrapstore resources are good quality and supplied at low cost to everyone.

They will be increasing the number of volunteer opportunities for local disadvantaged young people and increase the number of people who benefit from the services and resources at the new Scrapstore in West Swindon.

Scrapstore manager Oliver McCann said, "All the staff and volunteers would like to thank all the people who donated items to us and those who volunteered their time to help us setting up the new Scrapstore. Special mention has to be given to Ian, Dillon and Paul of Kleerex Retail Services Group who donated thousands of pounds of racking and installed it free of charge.

"Elite Joinery, Capture CCTV, B&Q, Office Clearance Wholesale Ltd, Waste to Wonder,  SP Computers and Hills Waste all came to our rescue.

"The probation service and the Gateway Church project also provided volunteers to help us prepare the building. We had individuals who read the articles about the fire and came along to help, we have received so much generosity and kindness from the local community, its been amazing.

"We're excited about to reopen in much larger premises. The possibilities for future development are huge. Over the next few months we're looking forward to showing the community the new improved and much larger Scrapstore full of wonderful colourful creative materials. We're open to everyone to access and we would like to invite the people of Swindon to come and visit us and see what fantastic resources we have available.”
