Singing an array of musical theatre songs, the Swindon Show Choir will be performing at the Commonweal school on Saturday 11 July.
Swindon Show Choir is celebrating its first anniversary with a “sensational” summer concert full of musical magic.
The choir launched last year and now have 50 members across Wiltshire.
Performing songs from West End musicals, they have become a popular attraction at many events, including local festivals.
Their summer concert is due to be held at the C6 Theatre at Commonweal School in The Mall on Saturday 11 July from 7.30pm.
The evening includes songs from ‘We Will Rock You’, ‘Billy Elliot’, ‘Blood Brothers’, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, ‘Operation Mincemeat’, ‘Sunshine on Leith’, ‘Let It Be’, ‘Six’, ‘Oliver’ and ‘The Pirates of Penance’.
Swindon Show Choir requires no auditions and no previous experience is necessary, but co-founder Jessica Broderick has been delighted by their success.
She said: “Swindon has a strong choral scene but we felt there was space for a new group of singers with a focus on musical theatre ‘a cappella’ – without instrumental accompaniment.”
“They’ve made amazing progress in their first year, transforming from people who’d never sung together into a talented and supportive community of friends.
“They’re such a diverse group. We have members aged from 19 to 82 years old, not only from Swindon but also Royal Wootton Bassett, Wroughton, Highworth, Cricklade and beyond. “We have teachers and gardeners, nurses and nursery workers, artists and administrators - it’s a great mix of backgrounds.
“We’ve already performed at the STEAM Museum’s Golden Age Festival and other events across the county, but this will be our first ticketed event where we are the headline act. “We hope people will come along to enjoy an awesome evening of sensational singing!”
Tickets are £12 and available from www.ticketsource.com. Search ‘Swindon Show Choir’.
They will be joined by their friends from Chippenham Show Choir, with close harmony group Ten in a Bar as special guests.
