Swindon Town have appointed a new director of football – former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood.
The announcement was made by Town chairman Lee Power at a packed press conference in the County Ground today.
The new director will be responsible for the club’s transfer policy as well as team selection. But Power explained that this in no way represented a demotion for the club’s head coach Luke Williams who signed a five-year contract in March.

Power said: “It’s been a bit of a shock that we have managed to get Tim in. We’re very mindful not to use the title manager, it’s not a demotion for Luke Williams, he’ll still be head coach and will be working alongside Tim.”
He acknowledged that this has been a difficult season for the club’s fans and suggested that the new appointment could kickstart a change in the club’s fortunes.
Sherwood showed his enthusiasm for the task ahead: "I started this morning. I'll be in the dressing room, I'll be talking to the boys and giving them some words of wisdom.
"I've had other offers but I think it's a project I've had my eye on for years. I've had a lot of discussions with a lot of clubs but I'm happy to be sat here.
"Let's make sure we stay in the league and start climbing up the table.''
