Swindon Scholars on the Villiers Park Educational Trust Scholars Programme celebrated a year of academic success on Thursday 29 June, receiving awards for their efforts from Chrissy Baker.
The Swindon Scholars Programme is part of Villiers Park Educational Trust’s national social mobility programme, tackling this issue which affects many less advantaged students in the Swindon area.
By building on essential skills and interests over some of the most academically challenging years of education, the Scholars Programme helps bright students and their peers to achieve their full potential, 88% of participating students going on to leading universities, a clear sign of the programmes success.
Schools participating in this programme include: Churchfields Academy; Lydiard Park Academy; New College; St Joseph’s Catholic College; The Commonweal School.
The End of Year Celebration marked the great achievements of these students with the awarding of the Gold Standard Awards and the Mike Baker Scholar of the Year Awards.
An impressive total of 112 Scholars from Year 10 to Year 13 achieved the Gold Standard Award, whilst the Mike Baker Awards went to Sinead Foxworthy of the Commonweal School, Ellie Beale and Joe Inglis of St Joseph’s Catholic College and Misha Farhan of New College.
The winners were delighted, and portrayed the programme extremely positively. Ellie Beale said: “The past few years on the Villiers Park programme have been enjoyable and equipped me with skills that I would not otherwise have. I did not expect to win the award, however I am very grateful."
