Opinion and Features

After 3 years hard work by members, an extension to the Coate Water miniature railway is now open to the public, increasing the track to one mile in distance.

Open some Saturdays, every Sunday and bank holidays (weather permitting) from around 11am to 5pm (or dusk in the winter) the Coate Water Miniature Railway runs through a lovely wooded setting, with gradients of up to 1:57. During the summer school holidays the railway also opens on a Tuesday.

The landscaping has to be completed and signals have to be installed on the original route, meaning trains can only run over the full distance along the new section. In the future, the railway will be able to offer the original shorter route or the full distance.

Passengers can now be dropped at the Richard Jeffries Museum and be picked up later at a new platform.

Coate Water miniature railway opens at 11am to 5pm, or dusk during the winter (weather and volunteers permitting). Fares are £2 per person (adult or child). Also on the railway is a special needs coach for wheelchair and less mobile passengers.

The railway are always looking for new members. You do not need to be a model engineer, just have an interest in railways.  Your individual skills in most cases can be used in the furthering of this wonderful hobby.

Come along on a Sunday or if you can to the Tuesday work parties and see what we do.  You do not have to join straight away, several visits are suggested so that you can make up your mind whether to join.
