Swindon's Hindu community will join together on Wednesday (1 Feb) for this years Saraswati Puja celebration, which takes place at the Punjabi Community Centre, Kembrey Park.

Previous celebrations have been highly successful with people from across all Swindon communities attending.

In the Hindu faith, Saraswati is goddess of wisdom, art, science and philosophy, and the celebration holds special significance.

The Puja’s Gala Cultural programme will start at 6pm, with Swindon’s Mayor Cllr Eric Shaw opening the ceremony.

This year’s festival is expected to be even more successful than in previous years with music and entertainment and will also be an opportunity to sample Asian cuisine.

Councillor Derique Montaut is part of the Saraswati Puja’s organisational committee. He said: “I welcome the Hindu community organising this celebration and would encourage Swindon residents to attend this special event. Swindon’s Saraswati Puja celebrations have been very successful in previous years with hundreds of residents and many local dignitaries attending.

"The entertainment and food put on for this event is always very good and is an opportunity for people to learn about other cultures.”
