We have a diverse range of community groups and organisations providing essential services in Swindon. So we decided that a day of celebration by profiling the voluntary sector would be a good idea calling it ‘Community In Action L!VE’; twelve hours of broadcasting and each hour on a specific theme on 25 October 2016
We worked closely with Zurich Community Trust – which made the station a grant of £5,000 as well as some of their staff arranging interviews, recording features and conducting live interviews alongside our station presenters.
Volunteers live video-streamed the day and Lord Joel Joffe, one of our patrons, joined us for a final hour discussion.
“Can we make this an annual event?” was asked several times. The answer is: Yes.
Continuing our community engagement, check out new programmes for Tuesdays mornings at 10am. These include SWADS a charity supporting people recovering from a range of addictions and mental health issues producing their own monthly one-hour show, alternating with a new equalities programme profiling ethnic groups through Voluntary Action Swindon and ‘On The Road’ which focuses on a wide range of subjects related to using our roads with different guests.
