It is said that good things come in small packages - something that the talented members of Swindon and District Bonsai club are well aware of.
On Sunday, members of the long established club put their carefully nurtured creations on show at the Grange Leisure Centre in Stratton St Margaret. And members of 11 other invited clubs and traders were also present for the event.
Club chairman Paul Bowerbank said: "This was a chance for members to showcase their talent. It's a wonderful hobby. You can use any type of tree, but we tend to go for trees that have smaller leaves because it is easier to recreate the look of a fully grown tree - but that is where the artistic side comes into it. It's a matter of carefully pruning the trees as they grow but it can take a few years before they begin to take shape. We had some wonderful examples on show this year."
The Swindon and District Bonsai Club was formed in 1977 - originally the Thamesdown Bonsai Society - by a group of like minded enthusiasts led by Ken Moncrief and Frank Maddocks.
Since its formation, the group have exhibited widely, including at the Chelsea Flower Show, Gardners' World Live and other major RHS shows.
