The park itself is run by a trust which works to improve upon the 40 square mile park for the benefit of both humans and wildlife alike. Offering a number of recreational activities, such as sailing and fishing, the park is also well known as a bird watching sanctuary. In all the area is comprised of 147 numbered lakes.
