Swindon mayor Junab Ali and Wiltshire High Sheriff Nicky Alberry were given the chance to experience a full-on training course run by Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service at their Drove Road station.
The two new recruits, kitted out in protective gear, were taught how to use hydraulic cutting equipment - used by firefighters to rescue injured people from vehicles following a road accident.
