Plans to revamp Swindon’s Abbey Stadium are set to take a step forward, if planners approve the fine details of the project on October 8.

Following outline planning approval for demolition and replacement of the existing stadium building, between Abbey Meads and St Andrews ridge, applicant George Edwards has submitted detailed plans for modifications to the existing track for greyhound and speedway racing, the construction of a new stadium building and customer facilities. The application also details the creation of a new acoustic barrier, car parking and a multi-use games area.

A market hall building, part of the original outline permission, is no longer included in the plans and a proposed new fire station on the site is also no longer part of the application.

The application will be considered by Swindon Borough Council’s planning committee on Tuesday 8th October 2019.
