Our District Centre

Toothill and Freshbrook will each have a village centre
serving day-to-day needs of the people living within about
500 metres. Plans are now being made for the DISTRICT CE_hTPE,
which will serve at least the 25,000 people living in Toothill,.
                             Freshbrook and 'Whitehill.
What would like to see in the 25 acres set aside to
the north-west of the big xcundabout on Tewkesbury Way?
Thamesdcwn Borough Council and Messrs. E.H. Bradley and
Son Ltd. each own cart of the land. A joint working party is
studying possible commercial uses - shops, offices, pub,
                             petrol station, etc.
A second working party is looking at possible social and
community uses. These could include physical recreation and
sport, library services and perhaps a Family Centre with

suggest possible residential Cr leisure-time amenities. Adult
education, the arts, including music and drama, a church and
of course health facilities are also on the agenda.
It will be some years before the District Centre is
finally comnletei, but land will very soon have to be allocated
and some decisions have to be made in the next few months.

The first 500 households in Toothill were surveyed in
1978 and a lot of very helpful information and ideas were re-
ceived. These are now being fed into the planning.
