NEW SCHOOL OPENS

May 1st was certainly a very special day for Toothill and
Freshbrook as, not only was it the day when Princess Anne visited the
Show Village but it was also a "Red Letter" Day for Oliver Tomkins
School - the official opening of the school by none other than the
Right Reverend Oliver Tomkins, former Bishop of Bristol. The children
had looked forward to this day for the special part they were to play
in the official opening by singing, making music and reading. It was
a happy afternoon, being shared by so many who have been connected
with the school, parents, managers, children and staff. During the
proceedings, Bishop Oliver Tomkins unveiled a plaque to commemrnorate
the day and as I had previously told the children, in years to come
when they bring their children to Oliver Tomkins School, they will be
                                                                   ,
able to look at that plaque and say "I remember that day, as I was
             there".
                           Margaret , 'hams, Headteacher.

             "WE DON'T KTTOVT lJ'YONF THERE'S NOTHING TO DO "
How often have we heard or read these statements from people who
live in Toothill and Freshbrook? Too often.' But help is at hand in
the form of Toothill Farm, which is to be handed over to the two
estates' residents by Thamesdown Council at a peppercorn rent. It
will be a base for community activities.
'There is the farm? It's off Bodiam Drive, Toothill.
What is the farm ? It's an old farmhouse and outbuildings.

Who will own it? For the moment, a steering committee comprising of
interested local people and Thamesdown representatives. Eventually,
people elected by clubs using the farm will take over the management.
•'hat activities will take place? The clubs proposed are:
Youth club (already active) Pistol club
             Car co-operative Social club
The list isn't closed and if you have an. idea please contact u.s.
That can I do ? Offer help. We need a treasurer, a surveyor,
labourers to clear the site, fund-raisers and people to make tea/
             coffee for the labourers.
In the long term we need plumbers, carpenters, bricklayers, electricians,
labourers, members of the social club and enthusiasm.

Who do I contact ? Mrs Joyce Dole, 9 RLhuddlan, Toothill. Tel:694716
             Weekends and evenings only please.
Please join us to give the people of Toothill and Freshbrook something
I L to do, somewhere to go and a way of meeting others.
