Julie takes up her new post


                                                                     Julie Livsey took up her job as West
                                                               Swindon's Artist in Residence early in the
                                                               New Year. Here she introduces herself.
                                                                     "Both Alan,(my husband) and I moved
                                                               to Newcastle in 1976. I had been offered a
                                                               place on the post graduate course at New-
                                                               castle University - we met at Bristol Art
                                                               College where we both completed the BA
                                                               degree course in Fine Art. This isn't my
                                                               first visit to Swindon, as in 1972 I spent a
                                                               year at the Foundation College here - things
                                                               have changed a lot in Swindon since then
                                                               and although I'm continually recognising build
                                                               ings and streets I still find it difficult to
                                                               find my way around.
                                                                     We only intended to stay in Newcastle
                                                               for a couple of years - being such an ex-
                                                               cellent centre for the arts we eventually
                                                               stayed nine years in which time both our
