ROYAL VISIT
TO WEST SWINDON
A Royal opening is planned for West Swindon's
secondary school. Greendown, which opened to
its first children last September, will be visited by
Princess Anne on the morning of Monday March
23rd. She will tour the school and meet students,
staff, parents, governors and representatives of
Wiltshire County Council.
Headteacher Ian Matthews said he was delightai
the Princess is coming. "I hope she can spend as
much time with the children as possible, because
that's what we're all about." Student Nicola Ham
of Freshbrook agreed, "I hope she asks lots of
questions" said the eleven year old.
Ian Harris, a Greendown student from Westlea
is abs o excited by the Royal visit, "I'm really
pleased that Princess Anne is coming because it
gives Greendown importance."

Princess Anne last visited West
Swindon nearly seven years ago. On
that occasion in April 1980 she open-
ed the 'Bradley Show Village' which
became the promotions and sales
centre for the Westlea development.
She unveiled a plaque on the build-
ing which is now the Ashington Way
Doctors surgery.

At the time of her visit all regional Toothill Ward Councillors hand over a petition
