School acts against vandals
A West Swindon primary school is taking drastic action to counter a
growing problem of vandalism.
Brook Field school in Shaw has
installed a £6,000 CCTV system
and has closed its grounds to the
public outside school hours due to
concern for the safety of children
and staff.
"The school has had an open
policy for the last twelve years with
practically no vandalism," said
headteacher Roger Nicholas. "Any
damage tended to be due to over
exuberance."
But there have recently been a
growing number of cases of mali-
cious damage including wooden
decking by the school pond being
set on fire, and a storage shed used
by Jellytots Playgroup being com-
pletely destroyed.
Additionally staff working late
have been intimidated by youths, Roger Nicholas showing off where
