Water has started to fl ow again in
Canal Walk in the town centre - not
horizontally as the 18th Century ca-
nal once did, but vertically in a new
steel sculpture at the crossroads
of Canal Walk, Regent Street and
Bridge Street.
The water feature is the focal point
for the £3.9 million town centre refur-
bishment funded largely by central
government. The pedestrianised
streets have been repaved with
high-quality stone, new benches
have been installed and unique
interactive lights will bring the area
to life in the evenings. Living green
walls will soon provide further points
of interest to visitors.
Canal Walk is the second area
of the town to undergo public realm
improvement works, following
Wharf Green in 2008. It forms part of
Swindon Council’s continuing plan
