railway heritage fete

The Children’s Fete, organised by Swindon’s New Mechanics’ Trust, takes
place on Saturday 17 July, midday to 10pm in the GWR Park, Faringdon
Road.
It will include all the treats you would expect from Swindon’s traditional
summer event, which fi rst took place in 1866 and there are stalls avail-
able to children’s charities and green groups, as well as crafts people.
Fancy dress on the theme of ‘Wonderland’ will be judged in categories
under 11, and 11 to 15 years.
Organisers want to hear from young bands/singers/musicians interested
in performing on stage during the day and into the evening.
Young people aged 16 to 25 are asked to volunteer with the organisation

Thomas the Tank Engine returns
STEAM Museum continues to mark the 175th anniversary of the GWR
with a family event on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 May when Thomas
