Bella Moore, a year 8 pupil at Abbey Park Academy, has taken the first step to becoming an internationally recognised artist by winning a local competition sponsored by the Swindon Lions Club.
Moore’s poster was among more than 100 entries depicting The Future of Peace submitted at Abbey Park Academy and more than 450,000 entries submitted worldwide in the annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest.
Lions Clubs International is sponsoring the programme to emphasize the importance of world peace to young people everywhere.
When describing the inspiration behind her poster, Bella said: “If all of us accept each other for our flaws and differences eventually we'll get along."
The poster was selected by judges Dr Susan Carr, Mr Terry Humphries and Lion Helen Marson for its originality, where posters were credited for artistic merit and portrayal of the contest theme: The Future of Peace. The judging was held on 9 November at Abbey Park Academy.
At the presentation at Abbey Park Academy on Thursday evening Swindon Lions Club presented certificates for the 20 best posters including Bella who was the competition winner; Amelia who came second; Joshua who was third; and Rosie and Princess who were highly commended.
Swindon Lions Club President, Lion Helen Marson, said: “This competition is an opportunity for Swindon to promote peace in a world of conflict.
"The students learn that the ideas they express actually matter: participating in the Peace Poster contest can change attitudes about life and the students can gain the confidence needed to become leaders and peacemakers.
"It is obvious that these young people have strong ideas about what peace means to them."
Bella Moore’s poster is now bound for the Lions' district level of competition.
