Calling runners, walkers, cyclists and dog walkers, bookings for the 2018 Sarsen Trail will open tomorrow, 12 December.

Organised by Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, this event sees a range of long and short distance trails across Salisbury Plain including the ever-popular Neolithic marathon beginning at Avebury Stone Circle.

2018’s event is due to take place on Sunday 27 May and an estimated 2,000 people are due to take part in it. The route is full of ups and downs and a mixture of grassland and farm tracks stretching across stunning landscape from the Vale of Pewsey, through the Avon Valley and across the wilds of Salisbury Plain.

The Sarsen Trail explores parts of Salisbury Plain that are not normally open to the general public, enabling people to discover some of Wiltshire’s special history, and spot some of the flora and fauna along the way and get fit in the process.

Derek Gard, organiser of the Sarsen Trail said: “The Sarsen Trail is a great way for people to get active in Wiltshire, a chance to get together with friends or to challenge yourself with one of the long distance routes. Whether you are a seasoned runner or a family group, there are walks, runs and cycle rides for all abilities, so why not get involved?”

The route is fully stewarded with first aid cover and support vehicles and a free coach service is offered for walkers between the starting and finishing points.

The Trust provides regular water and toilet stops with refreshments available along the route. All participants who cross the finish line at Old Carter Barracks, near Bulford, receive free refreshments at the end, along with a medal awarded to all those who finish their chosen route. Dogs are welcome to join their owners on the four walking routes and the half marathon.

Event options include:

?        Full and half marathon

?        A range of walks (7, 11, 15 and 26 miles)

?        Two circular mountain bike routes of 30 or 50km

?        CaniCross dog walks

?        5km and 10km fun run

Entry fees cover the Trust’s costs for organising the event and more funds can be raised for Wiltshire Wildlife Trust through individual sponsorship. Register before 3 April 2018 for the early bird discount.
