Wichelstowe’s littlest VIPs have officially opened the development’s newest community play area.

Pupils from Kingfisher CE Academy led the ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the launch of the fun new space.
Situated alongside the Wichelstowe Boardwalk between Middle and West Wichel, the public play area is designed for primary-age children and will give families from across the local area a safe and accessible place to enjoy outdoor play.
The play area is packed with swings, multi-play units, benches, picnic tables and bucket swings for younger children. It also includes soft grass matting and has been enhanced with new trees, shrubs, and hedges.
Charlotte from Kingfisher CE Academy, said: "Helping to open the new play area was so much fun! I love the swings and the climbing frame, and I can’t wait to come back to play with all my friends."
The new facility is part of Wichelstowe’s ongoing commitment to develop family-friendly spaces and enhance community life.
By combining thoughtful design with a focus on safety and accessibility, the play area provides an environment where children can develop physical skills, social interaction, and imaginative play.
Dan Pavely, Wichelstowe’s Project Director, said: "Seeing our littlest VIPs take part in the ribbon-cutting and enjoy the play area was a real joy.
"I’m sure it will become a favourite spot for families to come together, play and make happy memories.”
The Wichelstowe development is being built by Barratt Homes Bristol and David Wilson Redrow South West in partnership with Swindon Borough Council which will deliver 3,000 new homes along with new schools and community facilities over 20 years.
The 250-hectare site on the southern edge of Swindon will include extensive open spaces, nature conservation areas, playing pitches and allotments.
As part of this neighbourhood residents can enjoy 12km of new nature trails, play areas, 200 acres of open space and walks along the Wilts and Berks canal. There’s also a range of schools for children of all ages within easy reach.
Barratt Homes Bristol is building at Orchards View and Wichel Fields and David Wilson Redrow South West is building at Canalside and Orchards Rise.
